NHH: Movie Mavericks

Saturday, January 31st at 12:00 pm

Patrick Anderson from New Hampshire Humanities explores contemporary U.S. filmmakers whose originality and independence have shaped modern cinema. The program deepens appreciation for films created outside the mainstream Hollywood system, highlighting how their themes, styles, and narrative forms differ from classic, conventional movies. Directors studied include Steven Soderbergh, David Lynch, John Sayles, Spike Lee, Quentin Tarantino, the Coen brothers, Wes Anderson, Sofia Coppola, P.T. Anderson, Jim Jarmusch, and Charlie Kaufman. Participants closely examine film clips to become more visually articulate and critically aware of how to “read” a film.
