Summer Reading Program – 2008

“G’Day for Reading” Program Schedule

June 7 – July 7 - Sign-up for 6 weeks of adventure going “down under” on a vacation in Australia. Experience the Aboriginal culture, the Outback, the Barrier Reef, agriculture and strange wildlife of this far away continent.

The following six-week programs will be held at the Chesterfield Library on Mondays at 10:30 am, unless otherwise noted:

July 7 – Aboriginal “Dreamtime” stories and crafts with Angela Klinger, The Storyteller, from Salem, NH.  She comes to us sponsored by the “Kids, Books, and the Arts” grant and the Friends of Chesterfield Library.

July 14 – Equestrians from Australia and New Zealand will ride in on their horses from Roads End Farm to tell us about living “down under” and will answer our questions.

July 21 – What lives in the beautiful coral reefs, including the Great Barrier Reef off Australia ?  Let us find out!

July 28 – A field trip to Valerie Pietraszewska’s farm will give us a close up experience in sheep farming and working dogs. We will get a lesson in herding sheep with her border collies.  Bring a picnic lunch!

Aug 4 – Peter Starkey will share his down under adventures, presenting a slide show of his time in Australia .

August 11 – Kathy Price, musician and storyteller will help us celebrate the end of our Australian trip with stories and songs and help us make a Didjeridu Kazoo!! Prizes, Certificates, and Refreshments reward our successful adventure!  Fun for all!!
